My story

My story

In December 2024, the PACK Rescue Team's evaluator met Cuttlefish for the first time at the Wugu Animal Shelter. Volunteers unanimously recommended this good-tempered dog. The evaluator found that although Cuttlefish is slow to warm up and shy, he is very friendly, gentle in his movements, obedient, and polite, making him impossible not to love! Indeed, Cuttlefish learns quickly during training and, when around familiar people, he will try to snuggle up, creating a very interactive atmosphere. However, he isn’t overly energetic.Cuttlefish has playful, pointed ears and a shy, bashful face. His innocent eyes instantly melt hearts! Come meet the lovely Cuttlefish!

Cuttlefish

Personality

At first, Cuttlefish might seem timid and anxious around strangers. He needs a few days to adjust and familiarize himself with his surroundings. Once you get to know him, you'll realize Cuttlefish is very thoughtful, warm towards his caregivers, loves to be affectionate, and is a very considerate dog. Compared to other dogs, Cuttlefish prefers people. He tends to become attached to his caregivers, and limited social interactions and responses help him become more independent. If you prefer quiet, introverted dogs and want a relationship that respects each other's space, you must meet the lovely and soft Cuttlefish!

1

Energy Levels

Most of the time, he is calm, only getting excited before mealtime. With commands, he can quickly regain composure.

RELAXED ACTIVE

2

Temperament

We don’t know much about Cuttlefish's past, but he lacks a sense of security. He becomes anxious and nervous when faced with stimulation and is quite introverted and shy. If given enough time and love, he will become more lively.

SHY SOCIAL

3

Role

Cuttlefish is comfortable around other dogs but not overly attached to them. He prefers people over other dogs. He is sensitive to human emotions, and harsh discipline can have the opposite effect on him. Gently guiding him with commands will help him feel secure and improve his behavior.

FOLLOWER LEADER

4

Adaptability

When introduced to a new environment, he can be quite nervous, but after a day, he will start to relax. You can help him adapt by showing him the area and giving him plenty of instructions and interactions. However, if strangers enter the space, he will remain cautious and afraid.

Low High
Foster Family Says

Cuttlefish is a great dog, very smart, and learns quickly. However, he is extremely food-driven, so when giving treats, it’s best to toss them instead of hand-feeding to avoid him mistaking your hand for a treat.

Medical History

My health has been checked:

  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Microchipped
  • Vaccinated
  • Regular Worming Treatment

No specific medical issues.
My Behavior

My Behavior

We’ve noticed that Cuttlefish seems to carry an emotional burden, lacking a sense of security. He worries, especially when going to the bathroom, which prevents him from feeling at ease. He needs a quiet space and sufficient time to relieve himself. Unlike other dogs, if he’s caught doing something wrong, avoid scolding him. Simply clean up quietly and continue guiding him to the right bathroom spot. When he does it right, just gently reward him. Overly emotional rewards may add pressure to Cuttlefish. Because he’s sensitive, he’s easily affected by others’ emotions and may shrink away. He’s best suited to positive reinforcement training.

My Behavior

1

Tolerance Levels

At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.

Strangers

Outdoors, he gets slightly nervous when encountering strangers. If strangers appear in his familiar environment, he becomes more cautious and may bark, requiring reassurance.

3

Dogs

Cuttlefish isn’t particularly interested in other dogs. He may play with them once he gets familiar with them.

3

Cats

He might try to chase cats.

2

Kids

He has not encountered children yet.

4

Noise

Cuttlefish is sensitive to sounds. When walking outdoors, loud noises make him fearful and he may want to return home.

2

Touch

He loves being petted and enjoys being touched all over without any issues.

Behavior observations

There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.

Barking

He rarely barks, but will bark at strangers entering the house and needs calming before he stops.

1

Separation Anxiety

No signs of separation anxiety have been observed so far.

0

Aggression

No aggression observed, but be cautious when giving him treats as he may mistake fingers for food and bite.

0

Resource Guarding

Cuttlefish has been observed guarding his food bowl. If another dog approaches, he will bark loudly to chase them away. If there are other dogs in the household, it’s best to feed him separately and put away the bowl after eating.

1

Destructive Chewing

He has not destroyed any items. However, he likes to chew on fabric toys and might mistake clothes for toys. So, avoid leaving clothes around the house.

Obedience Training

Obedience training is critical for nurturing healthy dog-human relationships and having a well-behaving dog. Our dogs receive basic training at PACK Academy, which provides a foundation for communication between dog and human.
