My story

My story

Ruby is an adorable Red Poodle who captures the heart immediately. It’s hard to believe this sweet girl was recently found wandering the streets before being brought to the Neihu Animal Shelter following a public report. In November 2025, she was evaluated by a PACK assessor and welcomed into the PACK Academy.By nature, Ruby is cautious and slow to warm up, needing time and patience to build a sense of security. However, once she opens up, she reveals her true self: an extremely clingy, people-loving companion who wholeheartedly accepts full-body petting and gentle guidance, and follows her owner around like a little secretary. She is also stable and friendly with other dogs, easily interacting with them and often quickly cuddling up for warmth. This lovable slow-to-warm-up cuddlebug is now eagerly awaiting a forever home that can offer her a lifetime of complete security and unwavering love.

Ruby

Personality

Ruby is an extremely clingy cuddlebug who craves attention and companionship, often wanting to sit on your lap and showing affection through enthusiastic licking. She is highly social and curious about both dogs and cats.As a dog who absolutely needs human presence and strongly dislikes being alone, she will require a family with patience to guide her through separation training. Fortunately, being highly food-motivated makes treats the perfect incentive for her training.Ruby is a slow-to-warm-up yet inwardly passionate companion, seeking a warm family that can fully understand and satisfy her intense need for affection.

Upon her arrival at the foster home, she naturally jumped onto the sofa and chairs but was obedient when redirected. She is sensitive to sounds and easily startled, yet she absolutely loves being held and resting on a lap. She is intelligent and maintains a great balance between calm rest and active play.

My Behavior

My Behavior

Ruby is remarkably quiet at home, rarely making a sound, though she can be sensitive to certain environmental noises and is easily startled.Currently, she exhibits some anxiety when left alone, such as waiting by the door and pacing, and is actively undergoing separation training. When home alone, she has shown mild destructive chewing on items like paper and pillows.Fortunately, her high motivation for food makes treats an excellent incentive for training. She walks well on a leash with minimal pulling. House training is still a work in progress; her success rate for designated indoor spots is about 80%, and she requires very regular bathroom breaks every two to three hours. Possibly due to a history of long-term confinement, Ruby may inadvertently step in her waste, but she is a quick learner, and we are confident this behavior will soon improve.

My Behavior

1

Tolerance Levels

At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.

Strangers

Cautious and slow to warm up, she may retreat from sudden touch, but relaxes and accepts interaction after just a few minutes.

3

Dogs

She is interested in other dogs and actively observes and interacts with them.

5

Cats

She is also interested in cats and other animals, often approaching them gently to get acquainted.

4

Kids

Ruby tends to dodge running or jumping children, and like with strangers, she needs time to become familiar and relax.

3

Noise

She is easily startled by sudden noises, especially unfamiliar sounds, but she adapts relatively quickly.

3

Touch

She loves physical contact, craves to be touched, and wants to sit on laps.

Behavior observations

There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.

Barking

She is generally non-vocal, rarely barking and perhaps only emitting a few sounds when highly excited or inviting the owner to play.

0

Separation Anxiety

She does exhibit some separation-related anxiety; her response is often dependent on the owner's daily approach, where she may wait attentively by the door without any destructive barking or scratching. The primary concern is the potential for accidental messes, as she may inadvertently step in her waste before fully mastering designated indoor potty training.

2

Aggression

No aggression.

0

Resource Guarding

No resource guarding over food or possessions.

0

Destructive Chewing

There is, however, mild destructive behavior, which includes chewing on items like paper and pillows when she is left alone.
