My story
As a puppy, Simon and his three siblings were abandoned in a bucket and left in a field in Tainan. Since they were newborns without their mother’s care, they faced risks of starvation, attacks from other animals, and flooding during the rainy season. Fortunately, a rescuer found them in time and provided temporary shelter. Months passed, and the puppies grew up safely. Simon developed into a tall and lean dog but remained reserved due to limited socialization during his early months. In November 2024, he was taken in by PACK Academy to learn commands and build trust in humans. To everyone’s surprise, he progressed rapidly! While he still has much to learn about living in a human household, his foster family is working hard to help him adjust. There’s no doubt that Simon will become a wonderful companion.

Personality
Simon is a quiet and reserved dog who takes time to warm up to new people. When meeting him for the first time, it helps to crouch down and move slowly. Once he gets familiar with someone, he quickly becomes comfortable with being touched. He is good at adapting and gains confidence quickly, settling into new environments in a short time. At the PACK facility, Simon showed his loyal and caring nature—expressing concern for his caretakers with small gestures and even helping maintain order among the other dogs, much like a friendly neighborhood guardian.
1
Energy Levels
Simon is usually calm but gets excited before meals. A quick reminder helps him settle down. If left alone without toys, he may chew on random objects out of boredom.
2
Temperament
Simon is gentle, composed, and easy to get along with. He is observant and thoughtful.
3
Role
Simon is an easygoing dog. At the facility, he followed the lead of older dogs, and at home, he is responsive to commands.
4
Adaptability
New environments initially make him nervous, but he relaxes once given time to adjust. Providing a designated resting space helps him acclimate.
Foster Family Says
Despite being young, Simon can stay calmly by a person’s side without seeking attention. However, when left alone, he tends to explore and chew on objects. He forms a stronger bond with his primary caregiver and is still learning to fully trust all family members. He appears to be wary of men—he avoids eye contact but allows petting. Food, however, helps him warm up to people more quickly.

My Behavior
1
Tolerance Levels
At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.
Strangers
Simon freezes when meeting new people. Approaching him calmly and slowly helps him feel at ease, and within a few minutes, he allows petting.
Dogs
Friendly with other dogs and interacts well with them.
Cats
Simon is friendly to all cats and gets along with them harmoniously.
Kids
Children can also safely interact with Simon.
Noise
Sudden loud sounds startle him, sometimes making him freeze or spin in circles. However, if a trusted caregiver is nearby, he will follow them despite his nervousness.
Touch
Enjoys petting and seeks affection but is hesitant around strangers and men. Building trust is necessary before he fully accepts touch.
2
Behavior observations
There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.
Barking
Almost never barks, except once when an overly enthusiastic stranger approached him.
Separation Anxiety
No signs of separation anxiety.
Aggression
No signs of aggression.
Resource Guarding
No possessiveness over food or objects.
Destructive Chewing
Due to his young age, he may chew things if he doesn’t get enough exercise or stimulation. Providing durable chew toys and treats helps prevent this.
3
Obedience Training
Obedience training is critical for nurturing healthy dog-human relationships and having a well-behaving dog. Our dogs receive basic training at PACK Academy, which provides a foundation for communication between dog and human.
