My story
Xiaohu, a resident of the Xindian Animal Shelter, joined the PACK Preparatory School at the end of 2022. Due to his medium-large size and tiger-stripe coat, he might seem intimidating to people. With his strong personality, it was a big challenge to be chosen for adoption from the animal shelter. However, the PACK assessment team recognized his friendly and interactive side, deciding to bring him to the PACK Preparatory School for evaluation and training.
Throughout the training, they discovered some behaviors such as resource guarding, sensitivity, and not being very sociable with other dogs. Xiaohu spent about 10 months at the PACK facility, and now he has become a stable and affectionate dog. We are currently seeking help from potential adopters to provide Xiaohu with the opportunity to learn more about family life. Would you be willing to give Xiaohu a chance?
Personality
Xiaohu, the clever and lively dog, demonstrated remarkable agility in learning commands during his time at preparatory school. When it comes to food, Tiger exhibits exceptional patience, always waiting for instructions before indulging.
During walks, he regularly checks to see if his leash holder is keeping up. In moments of excitement, he promptly sits down if he notices the leash holder lagging behind, patiently waiting for him/her to catch up.
People who know Tiger consistently praise his stability and well-behaved. However, Tiger tends to have an exclusive kind of love; he's less inclined to share his beloved things—his owner and food. So, it's crucial to ask him nicely before taking anything from him!

Energy Levels
Xiaohu is usually very calm at home, rarely barking. However, when taken to the dog park, he becomes incredibly crazy! Despite this, Xiaohu is intelligent and easy to train. When you need him to calm down, simply call his name and ask him to sit, and he will settle down promptly.

Temperament
Xiaohu isn't particularly fond of playing with other dogs, but he thoroughly enjoys human touch and is quite accepting of strangers. He especially likes gentle touches, and if there's food involved, he becomes even more lovable!

Role
Xiaohu is very well-behaved, but he also has a strong personality. Therefore, when guiding him to learn right from wrong and giving commands, it's important to express yourself clearly. Additionally, Xiaohu is quite sensitive, and touching him with unfamiliar objects may make him resistant or inclined to react defensively. Hence, it's crucial to proceed gradually in such situations. However, normal petting with hands is completely fine with him!

Adaptability
Xiaohu has an excellent adaptability, showing no signs of timidity towards unfamiliar people or environments. On his first visit to the dog park, he ran around joyfully! However, Xiaohu isn't fond of interacting with other dogs; he tends to avoid small dogs and becomes a bit nervous around larger ones. He doesn't approach them on his own, but if you gently guide him and ask him to sit, he remains calm and displays his intelligence!
Foster Family Says
Overall, Xiaohu is a very intelligent and friendly dog! One thing to be mindful of is that he doesn't like wet things. If you need to wipe his paws, it's best to use a dry cloth. After wiping, giving him a treat can help him start to like this action. When initially getting to know him, avoid touching his face too forcefully or constantly, and refrain from messing with his collar around the neck, as it may make him upset.

Tolerance Levels
At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.
Strangers
Xiaohu is willing to approach strangers.
Dogs
Xiaohu tends to avoid small dogs, and when encountering larger dogs, he becomes a bit more nervous. However, if you ask him to sit beforehand, he remains calm.
Cats
No reaction to cats.
Kids
Response to children is not yet known for Xiaohu.
Noise
No specific reaction to outdoor noises during walks; at home, he looks up when there is movement or when someone grabs any objects.
Touch
Xiaohu enjoys gentle touches, but avoid touching his face when you're not yet familiar with him.

Behavior observations
There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.
Barking
Have not heard Xiaohu bark.
Separation Anxiety
No signs of separation anxiety observed.
Aggression
The first time wiped Xiaohu's mouth, he lightly bit the volunteer's hand midway. However, after realizing he doesn't like wet things, switching to a dry cloth resolved the issue.
Resource Guarding
Observed food guarding behavior in the organization, but no observed food guarding during the stay with the foster family.
Destructive Chewing
Has not caused any damage to objects.

Obedience training is critical for nurturing healthy dog-human relationships and having a well-behaving dog. Our dogs receive basic training at PACK Academy, which provides a foundation for communication between dog and human.
