My story
In November 2023, Xiangxiang entered the PACK Academy. We first met Xiangxiang at the Banqiao Animal Shelter. With her petite frame and sunny smile, she was irresistibly adorable! Upon assessment, we discovered Xiangxiang to be gentle by nature, albeit requiring time to trust strangers. Her swollen mammary glands led us to speculate that she may have undergone multiple pregnancies, possibly contributing to her maternal instincts and heightened awareness of her surroundings. Xiangxiang is incredibly well-suited for novice families, as she is gentle, stable, and affectionate without being overly enthusiastic. Quiet and composed, she is a reserved angelic dog.
Personality
Xiangxiang is a shy and slow-to-warm-up individual, but she yearns to be close to humans and harbors fond feelings towards them (once she gets to know them). Initially, she may retreat and display signs of unease, such as tucking her tail. However, she actually enjoys being petted by people. On the first day, she may appear unresponsive to touch, but if treated kindly and patiently for about three days, she will gradually warm up. The key to knowing if she likes you is to observe her tail - initially still, then gently wagging, followed by more enthusiastic wagging upon seeing people, and eventually even wiggling her rear end. When she likes you, she'll continuously gaze at you, sneakily approach you, and slowly come closer when called for pets. She's a gentle soul at heart.

Initially cautious around strangers, Xiangxiang shows warmth once she becomes familiar with them.

Tolerance Levels
At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.
Strangers
Xiangxiang is cautious around strangers, she may approach but will dodge away. If movements are too abrupt, she tends to run faster, but becomes more receptive with gradual interaction.
Dogs
Xiangxiang is less inclined to interact with unfamiliar and large dogs.
Cats
No observations yet.
Kids
Xiangxiang may get startled by overly energetic children.
Noise
She may get startled by sudden noises, resulting in tail-tucking.
Touch
Xiangxiang can be touched and hugged, but she feels more comfortable with it once familiar with the person.

Behavior observations
There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.
Barking
Xiangxiang is more prone to growl or bark at unfamiliar dogs.

Xiangxiang does not exhibit separation anxiety.

Xiangxiang does not exhibit separation anxiety.
Resource Guarding
Xiangxiang may exhibit resource guarding behavior towards other dogs and prefers not to have other dogs near her resting area.
Destructive Chewing
Xiangxiang has not displayed any destructive chewing behavior.

Obedience Training
Obedience training is critical for nurturing healthy dog-human relationships and having a well-behaving dog. Our dogs receive basic training at PACK Academy, which provides a foundation for communication between dog and human.
