My story

My story

Yumi was raised with lots of love in a family environment, and she’s very affectionate with humans. She loves to be pampered and enjoys being petted all over. Due to unfortunate circumstances, her original family could no longer care for her, and she ended up in a foster home waiting for adoption. Full of energy, Yumi seems to have some herding dog in her, so she needs plenty of walks and regular activities to keep her busy. She thrives on companionship and needs someone who can spend time with her. After waiting a while for a forever home, Yumi was finally accepted into the PACK Academy in July 2024. After undergoing an evaluation, she entered PACK’s training program, where she quickly mastered all commands. She is now in foster care and learning the ropes! If you're looking for a highly interactive, intuitive, and spirited companion, Yumi is calling for you!

Yumi

Personality

Yumi’s appearance is like a Brittany Spaniel, and her personality is as sweet and pure as a sablé Breton cookie. As she is still young Yumi has lots of energy and stamina, but she is a bit more mature than other dogs her age. She can calmly be left alone at home, and if there are playmates around, she’s eager to join in. If she gets a little too carried away during playtime, calling her name and giving her the "sit" command will help calm her down. However, Yumi does need some improvement in her social skills; she can be shy around unfamiliar people and dogs and won't approach them right away. With time, she warms up and enjoys being pampered, forgetting that she's a big dog!

Foster Family Says

At first, we thought Yumi was a very energetic dog and expected her to play wildly with our other dogs. We even separated them sometimes, just to observe. However, we soon realized that she can also settle down calmly. When we don’t give her much attention, Yumi is happy to lie quietly by our side while we read.

Medical History

My health has been checked:

  • Spayed/Neutered
  • Microchipped
  • Vaccinated
  • Regular Worming Treatment

No health issues have been observed.
My Behavior

My Behavior

Yumi is great with following commands, which helps get her attention when needed, especially when she gets caught up in play with other dogs. If she's doing something wrong, calling out "NO" will usually stop her in her tracks. When walking, she tends to keep a relaxed pace, but you’ll need to stay alert because she might suddenly chase a bird or cat! Fortunately, she adjusts her pace to match yours and is considerate of your stride. Yumi benefits from three walks a day – being young and energetic, plenty of exercise helps her behavior stay balanced.

My Behavior

1

Tolerance Levels

At PACK Academy, we socialize our dogs by exposing them to different stimuli and recording their tolerance levels for each one. These oservations help us understand the dogs better, which then helps us find suitable homes for them.

Strangers

Yumi isn’t avoidant but doesn’t rush to greet strangers. After some time to get familiar, she will approach and sniff them.

4

Dogs

Yumi doesn’t approach unfamiliar dogs right away. After getting acquainted, she will sniff them and then happily play together.

4

Cats

Yumi may chase cats, but she can be stopped.

2

Kids

Same as strangers. After some time to get familiar, Yumi will approach and sniff them.

Behavior observations

There are some common behavior issues that we see in dogs who have spent a significant amount of time in a shelter. We assess our dogs for these behaviors and provide training plans for adopters to help manage them.

0

Separation Anxiety

No signs of separation anxiety have been observed.

0

Resource Guarding

Yumi may low-growl if another dog approaches her food, but she doesn’t display food guarding toward humans. She waits patiently for her bowl to be set down and only begins eating after being given the "OK" command.

1

Destructive Chewing

Yumi may chew on shoes or socks if she’s bored.
